for those who aren’t CAT NERDS persians are consistently rated the most popular breed in the world
so thinking they are FUGTASTIC is truly an unpopular cat opinion.
I think they’re probably more popular for their disposition then anything (though traditional persians - with the snout that’s just short and not totally brachycephalic are among my favorites with snowshoes, scottish folds, sphynxes, ragdolls, and rexes and fuq da police ALL OF THEM)?? They’re pretty much billed as the quintessential lap cat, so that probably appeals to a lot of people who aren’t really into cats and just want something fluffy and soft to sit on them.
I don’t really meet a lot of people who think they’re super qt’s, unless they think so in the way that their ugliness just lets them cycle back around to adorability.
In my experience (my very very first cats were white and grey persians, named Whitey and Smokey), at least, they’ve been the most lap and cuddle oriented, with less of the cat asshole tendencies?? They were pretty chill with everything you did to them, didn’t really meow a lot or very loud, or really claw anything.
ALSO I would use Whitey as a pillow because he was so soft and tubby and he didn’t care, then when I fell asleep he’d sleep on my face but FAIR’S FAIR. I just really wanted to talk about my cat, okay??? He lived to be twenty without any serious health problems. (His sister contracted Fe-Leuk after we had somebody sit her.)
My cats now (three of them - Kai (Maine Coon), Shakiki (Snowshoe mix), and Snickers (moggie)) are all very cuddly but they’re super jerks, too. All of them howl, scratch everything despite cat spray and eat their nail caps, etc etc etc.
